Guadalupe Guirado

Founder · Captain · Host

I'm Guadalupe, but everyone calls me Lupe. In 2016, I left Argentina with a bicycle, a backpack, and a dream — and eventually found my home in San Blas.

Today I captain my own sailboat, offering authentic sailing adventures with a conscious approach. On board, we prioritize eco-friendly products and fresh, healthy food.

And if my boat is full, I'm happy to help you find the perfect sailboat with trusted local captains.

San Blas, officially known as Guna Yala, is an autonomous comarca on the Caribbean coast of Panama, home to the Guna people — one of the most culturally intact indigenous communities in the Americas.

With over 365 islands, most uninhabited, Guna Yala remains one of the few places on Earth where nature, culture, and community coexist in near-original form.

The Guna people govern their territory through a traditional system of village councils (Congreso General Kuna). They have successfully defended their autonomy through legal and peaceful means since the early 20th century.

All visitors are required to pay an entrance fee, which directly funds local schools, healthcare, and community projects.

Women traditionally wear vibrant molas — hand-stitched layered fabric panels representing animals, plants, and geometric patterns. These are both clothing and art, and are sold to visitors as a primary source of income.

Daily life revolves around fishing, coconut farming, and maintaining the islands. The Guna are deeply connected to the sea and have shaped their culture around it for generations.

We operate in Guna Yala as guests, not owners. We follow strict anchoring protocols to protect coral reefs, support local fishermen by purchasing their catch, and guide our guests to engage respectfully with Kuna communities.

We believe that sustainable tourism, when done right, is a tool for cultural preservation — not destruction.

San Blas hosts some of the healthiest coral reefs in the Caribbean, teeming with nurse sharks, eagle rays, sea turtles, and hundreds of fish species. The islands are fringed with white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water reaching visibility of 20+ meters.

The region remains largely free from mass tourism infrastructure, which is exactly what makes it extraordinary — and exactly what we work to protect.
